The Monsterpiece Doily, Halfway Through Round 3

I'll try to make this quick; I got home from work about a half hour ago so I'm tired but not sleepy so I'll do a quick update. Here is the Masterpiece/Monster AKA the Monsterpiece Doily as was before I went to work:

As you can see I have round 2 and about half of round 3 completed. And surprisingly is seems to be staying flat. I guess I was worrying for nothing. I'll see for sure after round 3 in done, but the joining picot size might not be as important as I first thought. It might help to make them on the small size, it just isn't as critical. Thread stats: the thread used for round 2 (the cream coloured one) is Manuela no. 20 colour #a055. The thread used for round 3 (the light green one) is Manuela no. 20 colour #a044. I am really enjoying tatting this doily.

That's it for now. Don't expect another update until the weekend; I don't know how much tatting I'm going to get done over the next couple days. Till next time.

  1. I think this is such a clever design as I found that size didn't matter on picots too. Also small variations in stitch count didn't seem to cause any problems either. Looking forward to the next instalment.

    1. I'm actually pleased and a little surprised it is working out well. I was very concerned after tatting the first round. I am happy to hear that small stitch count changes don't seem to cause problems-I'd rather not change any stitch counts but I will if needed.

    1. Thanks Carollyn! Maybe a little fast right now. I know I will slow down as it grows.

  3. Yes, Jane's right - it's so big, the little variations just disappear.

Looks great. My suggestion is not to rush or you'll get frustrated and bored. Try to relax with it, taking one tatting session at a time to focus on colour and the immediate element. That's what got me through the long process. It is a good pattern to perfect whatever you feel like zeroing in on. That's my rant! : ))

    1. I'm not trying to rush. The tatting goes so quickly during the first few rounds. I don't want to rush through it, as that is how mistakes happen. I will probably try other patterns while I'm tatting the Monsterpiece. I welcome your suggestion and will definitely focus on the colour and immediate element as I tat. Thanks.

    1. Thanks! They sure do. Sadly, it won't take long before they will seem to go on forever.

    1. I love the colour combination too. I'm glad I chose them. You really should try the pattern. I think you will enjoy it. And don't worry about your picot sizes too much.
