Quick Update

Howdy! Remember me? I haven't done much tatting since my last post, but I thought that I should post anyway. Despite no tatting, I have been busy. I have been working on making bracelets to sell on Etsy. I currently have six bracelets made and ready to be listed. While browsing Etsy's Guides, I found that it is a good idea to have a number of items available at lower prices to accommodate customers at different budget levels. So, I made several pendants, and I'm currently working on some earrings.

I'm not going to show pictures since I haven't taken any yet. I have the shop created, and will hopeful get photos taken over the next few days. I'm hoping that early next week my shop will be open. I'll make a post (with the shop URL) once I'm ready.

I'll end this post on a tatting related note. My brother found me some thread at a garage sale recently. Most of it is your plain run-of-the-mill size 10 crochet cotton, in mainly white. This will be used for crochet. There is some ecru DMC pearl cotton in sizes 5 & 8 that will be used for tatting. The is also some size 30 thread that I haven't seen before. Here's a photo:

As you can see in the photo, this is Daisy Mercerized Crochet Cotton in size 30, made by Belding Lily Co.. The skein contains 500 yards (457 meters) of thread. There are several skeins of this thread. The thread seems quite strong, so I'll try tatting with it, maybe tonight. If it works, I'll use it for tatting. If not, I'll try to crochet with it.

That's it for now. If all goes well, you should hear from me within a week, if not earlier. Till next time.

  4. I've used the daisy thread before for crocheting. It's usually just one very long twisted skein doubled, doubled and doubled. When you open it up you have one really big circle of threads tied in several places to keep the skein from tangling. Since I hate working fron wound balls. I wound mine on some old thread cores or paper towel cores. I haven't used it for tatting but it's a good six cord thread so it will tat up nicely.

  5. Hi Jeff,
I have some of this thread in a varigated green and white size 20. It tats up nicely. Yes, it is a large skein as Sharon says. here is the link to the post where I used the thread http://ladytats.blogspot.com/2008/07/mini-doily-and-25-motif-challenge.html
if you aren't going to be using it all right away, be sure that what you wind it on is acid free.
    happy tatting

  6. Wow what a great yard sale find!!! I have been searching all of the craft stores that we have where I live. Trying to find anything in a size 20 that isn't white or ecru, I haven't even been able to find anything smaller than a size 20. And your brother found this at a yard sale! Can't wait to see what you make with it! You will have to let us know about how you like to tat with it.

  7. Thanks for stopping by everyone.

Thanks for the info Sharon and Ladytats. I found out about the thread being doubled, and doubled, and doubled, etc. It tats alright, but it is a 3 cord thread.

Welcome EnlightededByAngels! Thanks for stopping by. I know what you mean about finding coloured size 20 thread. I usually mail order Flora or the new Lizbeth thread. Same thing with most smaller sizes. The Michaels here has a small section of size 80 thread. I just finished a length of edging with the thread. I'll post a picture in a day or two.
