Thread from Exchange and Homework

I finally have gotten around to posting. Still haven't done much tatting, but I am making progress on my next crocheted piece. I did get my homework done for Sharon's Design-Tat group, which I'll show at the end of this post. I'm not sure when I'll get back to tatting. I cut one of my fingers at work a few days ago (nothing serious, but the bandage interferes with the tatting; crochet is easier, but not being able to feel through the bandage slows things down a bit). Typing is slow, but possible, though this post took two days to write.

As I mentioned in my last post, I participated in Kathy's Thread Exchange this year. So far I have received 4 out of the 5 threads I was to get. I do believe the fifth thread is on the way (I got an email today that one of my partners received her fifth thread, so I should be getting mine.) Any way here are the threads that I have received so far. First up, is from Trayna F., from Scotland. She sent me two lovely threads.

The first is Coats #20, colour # 4148, the second is Manuela #20. Trayna believes that both are discontinued. That fact alone makes these very special. Since I can't get anymore, they will have to be used for something special. Giving us (I think everyone got the same threads) these threads was very generous of Trayna. She also sent a postcard.

The next thread is from Patty B, of TN, USA. She sent a very colourful sample.

This is DMC size 80 thread, I'm not sure what the colour number is. I have a ball of this thread, but I can't find it. As I mentioned earlier, I have started to like size 80 thread, and intend on using it more.

The next sample is from Karen F. from OR, USA. She sent a very lovely sample of silk thread.

This is LadyShuttleMaker's Karen's Halo Silk HDT, size 20. A really cool fact is that I got this thread from the Karen that the thread was named after. This little fact make the thread a little more special. She also sent a really cool card:

Pretty cool, huh? Karen herself rides a motorcycle.

My final sample of thread comes from Libby H. from SC, USA. She sent two samples as well.

The pink is a sample of Cebelia #223. The second sample is Sulky #40 in colour #942-523. I haven't tried this thread before and I am looking forward to using it. It is 100% rayon.

I would like to express my thanks to all of you generous ladies that I exchanged threads with. As I mentioned, the fifth sample has been received by a few of the other ladies now, so once I receive my thread, I'll post about it.

Finally, I have a picture of my homework for Design-Tat. It's not pretty, but I think it will do for now.
I kinda like it. It reminds me of a butterfly. I might rework it some other time. I have to write out the pattern for our next homework assignment. I would like to get back to my other tatting projects. I'll post again with pictures of my orchids that are currently in bloom. Later.

  1. Hi Jeff! I want those threads. That rainbow colored DMC you have is #109 and of course, it's discontinued. It's always the prettiest colors that go away.

That motif is awesome!! I can see a bunch of them joined at the corners to create a table runner. You MUST share the pattern one of these days.

  2. Not pretty?! I love it! Of course, you chose the right color, and that always helps. ; )

It looks like you received some lovely threads in the exchange. I can't wait to see what you make with them!

  4. You have received a wonderful selection of threads. I was not able to join Kathy's thread exchange this time round but I did the previous time she organised.

    I have a confession to make. I have problems using thread that I received from exchanges. Not because I don't like the thread but rather, 'scared' to use it in case I run out of thread before I finish a motif with it. Any suggestion to oversome this? :-}

  5. Thank you all so much for your kind comments.

Thanks Steph, for the colour # of the DMC thread. I didn't know it was discontinued as well. I'll have to see if Michael's still has some.

Did I say not pretty, Diane?

I think it will make a great table runner as well.

You know what Jon, I have the same problem as you. Especially since several of the threads I received are discontinued. I don't think I can help you overcome this problem.
